"Making it Work"

The Friendly Schools & Families Team Handbook and Tool Kits provide a step-by-step guide to the process of planning for change to reduce bullying behaviours and promote a positive and safe school environment.

The Handbook and Tool kits have been designed for school-based teams, coordinators and facilitators, to systematically guide the effective implementation of this program.

Team Handbook

This resource has been designed for schools, to be used as a working document for the planning and implementation of a whole-school approach to developing a Friendly School community.

The Whole-school Program is divided into five stages of Friendly Schools & Families activities. This handbook is about how to work through each stage.

Maintenance of a Friendly Schools & Families ethos

The Team Handbook begins with a brief description of the extensive research conducted prior to the development of this program. The handbook then provides the background information required to use the Whole-school Handbooks, tool kits and resources provided in the Whole-school Pack.

Step-by-step support is provided to establish and build the capacity of your Friendly Schools & Families Team to successfully manage and implement the Program.

Team Actions

Team actions outline what needs to be done by the Friendly Schools & Families Team at each step within a stage.

School Snippets

Case study examples, called ‘School Snippets’, have been included throughout these stages. These are designed to illustrate in a practical way the guidelines and activities suggested within each stage. Teachers and administrators from schools involved in the Friendly Schools Research, contributed to the ‘School Snippets’ based on their experiences implementing the Whole-school Program.

Toolkits

Tool Kits provide resources for the Friendly Schools & Families Team to help to plan and implement the program. The Tool kits are in hard copy form in the Handbook and are also provided on the CD ROM – ‘Bringing the Program Alive’
